Collectively, Doherty & DeLeo have over 50 years of experience and have completed over 150 new homes and countless remodeling projects in Fairfield County, Connecticut.
Ken DeLeo has been interested in building since he was a child growing up in Stamford, Connecticut. His father sparked his interest by giving him many labor-intensive chores, including digging out and constructing the basement in the home he grew up in. At twenty-one, after years of developing his skills and taking on his own projects, Ken started his first construction company, Kenneth DeLeo Construction, and has never looked back.
John Doherty has also been working at his trade since childhood. He started working in his family’s flooring business in Stamford, after school and on Saturdays, and as soon as he reached his twenties, took over full-time.
John and Ken first met in the early eighties and shared their passion for creating high quality homes with innovative features. In the early nineties, together with a third partner, they bought a piece of property in Darien and built five homes and a new road, Fresh Meadows Lane. After the successful completion of the homes, John, Ken, and their third partner started Fresh Meadow Builders. Together they built over forty homes in Fairfield County and split amicably in 2003.
After the split, Ken and John still shared a similar mission to offer the highest quality construction and develop in Fairfield country. Together, they started Doherty & DeLeo Development. Their first project together was a 3000 sq. ft. home in Greenwich, CT, which upon listing sold in one day.
Achievements as Doherty & DeLeo Development
Out of the many homes they’ve completed together, both John and Ken say their favorite project is an 18,000 sq. ft. home in Greenwich, Ct built on speculation. The dream home included every possible bell and whistle, from a movie theater and a wine cellar to a laundry list of features including 9 fireplaces, 10 bathrooms and 3 laundry rooms.
In 2008, Doherty & DeLeo Development were one of the first contracting companies in the area to complete a gold-certified green home. The knowledge gained during the process is now used in many of their projects to ensure their clients have the highest quality, most efficient cost-saving homes that allow for easy long term property maintenance.
Recognizing the importance of relationships beyond their clientele and the importance of supporting local business, Doherty & DeLeo have great relationships with their suppliers and sub-contractors in Fairfield County.
Both Ken and John have used Rings End Lumber for over 30 years, and are consistently raving about their services and quality of supplies. Their relationship with Rings End and their high quality of work has led them to complete many projects directly with them including their Norwalk, CT store, their Darien, CT kitchen show room and many others.
They have also worked with many local architects over the years but have been very loyal to R. Barry Gowey, who has designed at least one hundred of their homes.
They also have used many sub-contractors continually, some for over twenty years, including:
- Total Comfort has been doing their HVAC installations for roughly 20 years.
- Jim Stockenborjer: Plumbing & heating, 18 years
- Corrigan: Electric, 18 years
- Mr. Insulation: 20 years
- Feda Drywall: 22 years
- Killer concrete: 18 years
- And many more…
